WCAG Contrast Checker Guide for Accessible Design

How to check text and background contrast so your UI meets WCAG AA and AAA targets.

Readable contrast is one of the fastest accessibility wins on any site. WCAG defines minimum ratios for normal and large text.

What to aim for

Normal text should reach at least 4.5:1 (AA). Large text can use 3:1. AAA targets are higher.

Check colors quickly

Open the Contrast Checker and test your brand colors before shipping UI. For design systems, also try the Color Converter when moving between HEX and RGB.
